Customer Rating: Summary: A Fun Read Comment: I am so glad I didn't read any reviews before I bought and read this book, because I absolutely loved it from start to finish. I have enjoyed all of Julia Quinn's books but I think THE LOST DUKE OF WYNDHAM is her best book yet. I started laughing out loud when I read the dedication and I laughed through the entire book. I really hate to spend money on a book that I don't enjoy and therefore I sympathize with those reviewers who felt this book wasn't one of Quinn's best, but I, myself, thought it was terrific. I've read it twice and am looking forward to the continuing story in MR. CAVENDISH, I PRESUME.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not perfect, but I liked it Comment: I think what did it for me with this book was Jack. I absolutely loved him !!!! I read ALOT, and I have to say, Jack is one of my favorite male characters ever! Some people may not appreciate his sense of humor, but I did.
He was funny, flirty, witty, and I just loved his sarcasm!
Absolutely loved it! But thats just me, thats my kind of humor. I'm not sure however how I feel about Grace.
She's likeable, but not a very strong leading character. At times it seems like she's just along for the ride. I found myself connecting more with Thomas, the other main male character (whose in the next book "Mr.Cavendish I Presume") more than I did with Grace. You really feel for Thomas and what he's going through, but he handles it so well. HE'S MY HERO! So for me, it was the men that made this book. Jack is such an endearing character ( to me anyway), and you just want to wrap your arms around Thomas and hold him. You really need to look at it this book as though Jack and Thomas are the main characters and not Jack and grace.
There is a love story (two actually), but that part could have been written alot better, and been alot "juicier". With A guy like Jack, how could you have it any other way? He was such a rogue, I wanted to kiss him !! This book also had a character from hell! The Grandmother from hell to be exact (and thats putting it mildly!!). I dont think hate is a strong enough word for what you will feel for this woman. Loath?, despise?, is disgusted by? you read it and decide, but it's all three for me.
So I say give this book a shot. As I said earlier, there is a second book that follows this story of but I warn you, dont read them back to back !!!! The second book is written to coincide with the first, so if you can, I would suggest you wait ahwile between the two.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun and escapist Comment: I found the novel to be fun, humorous, and there was plenty of chemistry between the main characters, which is what I look for in a romance novel. I'm really not sure why everyone is being so hard on this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Really liked it Comment: Have always enjoyed Julia Quinns novels. She tells a good story with likeable characters. Looking forward to the follow up.
Customer Rating: Summary: Below her standard-but worth the read Comment: I've been a Julia Quin fan since reading the Bridgerton Series. However, I don't think this book was up to the caliber of the other books she's written. I found it a little far-fetched that on the basis of a few words and seeing partial facial features in the dark the Dowager Duchess would determine that this was her long-lost grandson. I liked Jack's sense of humor, but it took WAY too long to end the book when you knew good and well that he was the true heir because that's the way it's supposed to be in romance books. I felt sorry for Thomas being ousted so callously from something he'd grown up believing his whole life. Other than the humor between the two main characters, there wasn't much "spark" between them. I kept waiting thru almost the whole book for the spark to happen. I will read the sequel just because I'm a sucker for books that are related and I will continue to read Julia's books if the next book is better than this one.
I think sometimes that really successful authors are sometimes pushed to publish new books too quickly and consequently churn out books that aren't always up to the standard of their first books. I've found this to be true for several authors over the years, including ones as famous as Nora Roberts. I think publishing companies are greedy for money and fans are greedy for more books and that makes for a sometimes disappointing publication.

Jack Audley has been a highwayman. A soldier. And he has always been a rogue. What he is not, and never wanted to be, is a peer of the realm, responsible for an ancient heritage and the livelihood of hundreds. But when he is recognized as the long-lost son of the House of Wyndham, his carefree life is over. And if his birth proves to be legitimate, then he will find himself with the one title he never wanted: Duke of Wyndham. Grace Eversleigh has spent the last five years toiling as the companion to the dowager Duchess of Wyndham. It is a thankless job, with very little break from the routine . . . until Jack Audley lands in her life, all rakish smiles and debonair charm. He is not a man who takes no for an answer, and when she is in his arms, she's not a woman who wants to say no. But if he is the true duke, then he is the one man she can never have . . .
