Summary: great, easy read
Comment: Hesitant at first about a book written through the eyes of a dog, I devoured this one in 2 days. It's full of life lessons, a little humor a little suspense and a lot of love.

Summary: Sleeper of the Summer
Comment: I honestly never write reviews but this was one of the best books I have read in a long time. The original idea of using the dog in the first person gave this book an interesting twist that could not happen from the "human" perspective. The book was entertaining, with some rough patches for the characters along the way. However, the ending gave hope that with faith and determination, all things are possible. This book hasn't gotten much press and seems to be a summer sleeper. At any rate, a book worth the time to read.

Summary: Beautiful, Touching, Engrossing
Comment: Dogs, Race Car Driving, and a beautiful philosophy of life. This book has it all. I could not put it down and had to read it in two days even though I had a million other things to do. I admit to being a dog lover, but I'm certainly not interested in race car driving. Nevertheless, this book will make a dog lover out of a non-dog person and race car enthusiast out of a couch potato with no interest in cars at all. But most important, this book has heart and a compelling plot. Highly recommended.

Summary: Great book
Comment: I have never left a review on a book but I have read quite a bit. I just finished "The Art of Racing in the Rain" and had to say how much I loved this book. This was a well written book with a great story. My only advice, don't read this book when you are away from your dog, I read it while I was out of town for work, I may not have cried as much if I was at home with her.

Summary: Enzo rules
Comment: With wit, wisdom, and tender insight Garth Stein has crafted a wonderful book that will make you laugh, cry--and think.

Editorial Reviews:

Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.

Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques needed on the race track, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals.

On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through: the sacrifices Denny has made to succeed professionally; the unexpected loss of Eve, Denny's wife; the three-year battle over their daughter, Zoë, whose maternal grandparents pulled every string to gain custody. In the end, despite what he sees as his own limitations, Enzo comes through heroically to preserve the Swift family, holding in his heart the dream that Denny will become a racing champion with Zoë at his side. Having learned what it takes to be a compassionate and successful person, the wise canine can barely wait until his next lifetime, when he is sure he will return as a man.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life . . . as only a dog could tell it.
