Summary: Great Sheds and Photos of Some Exciting Hideaways
Comment: I picked up this book after reading a recommendation in the paper by the garden writer in Newsday. I am glad I picked up this book. This book is great for anyone who loves the outdoors, great photos of nature and enjoys gardening. The author compiled many exciting sheds to view and explained how they came to be, her writing style is beautiful to read. It also shows some cool garden sheds and bird watching hideaways. Being an avid gardener and bird watcher I especially liked them. I also enjoyed seeing some of the sheds located on Long Islander, since I am the Long Island Momma. I also enjoyed reading the authors blog that is on Amazon's web site which is great reading and leads you to the author's web site, which is very cool.
If the author revises this book my only comment to her would be I would have liked an index in the back of the book to help in looking up pages where certain things such as locations of sheds or hideaways are in the book. Even with stating that I must admit I loved this book.

Summary: A Gardener's Wish Book!
Comment: Oh! I didn't even know I WANTED a garden shed until I saw this book. I have a small back yard, filled with trees and a pond, no room at all for a structure. I briefly contemplated pulling out the trees in exchange for a romantic shed (no, not really, but I DID long for more room so I could have a garden structure). This is a beautiful book, gorgeous pictures, delightfully written, and a must have for gardeners everywhere. While the sheds themselves are beyond the average budget, the ideas they inspire to do on your own budget are infinite. Get this book, and do like I did...sit with a few other gardeners and browse through the pages together. You'll ooh and aah and make other unseemly noises while lifting your wineglass. A must have for making your garden wish list during the heat of summer or cold of winter when we gardeners turn to books and planning since we can't be outdoors.

Summary: Shedding Light on the "Man Cave"
Comment: Who needs a dank and dreary "Man Cave" when you can opt, instead, for a classy backyard destination such as those in Stylish Sheds and Elegant Hideaways?
I spend my free time out-of-doors in the garden and dream of having a garden retreat of my own. This book is filled with creative ideas and marvelous photos to help me along.

Summary: Ideas galore
Comment: Just as each house has a style of its own, so do these sweet "sheds" display individual personalities. There are ideas for every taste and budget. I particularly enjoyed the Norwegian-style "stabbur" (since I'm half Norwegian!) but the takeaway idea is to have a roof over your head (grass optional) with an outdoor rug and a table. Great potential for those with a walkout basement: "Sweet Retreat" with a 10x10 walkout room as a portal to a patio. Both the room and the patio rely on cozy furniture to invite conversation and conviviality. From country to zen, from desert to England, the atmospheres shown and described so well in this book provide creative fodder for a special hideaway, using what you have or designing something new.

Summary: packed with ideas and inspiration
Comment: I love this book--it reminds me of how I used to pore over the Sears Wishbook when I was a kid, studying all the possible options for inclusion in my letter to Santa. The shed and design ideas help me reimagine my existing garden--despite the lack of shed space--by letting me see how the structures work with the landscape around them. So even though I only have space for fences and arbors, the gorgeous photography gives me inspiration for creating views, making plant choices, and understanding scale and color. I also love seeing how people interpret sheds and how they fit varying tastes and lifestyle possibilities. I long for a shed of my own someday, and seeing all these wonderful possibilities certainly has helped me develop a more detailed vision of exactly what I want.
