Summary: Another Great Sookie Book
Comment: I love Sookie and this book did not disappoint. I can't wait for the next one. This series is a great beach read, so if you're going on vacation take Sookie along.

Summary: Face It, We've Just Gotten Spoiled--More Like a 4.5
Comment: For those of us faithful to this series, this book was a necessary bridge to the books certain to follow. The characters were made specific and drawn more richly. Some were removed, some changed and increased in intensity--can't wait for more Eric! BUT, that said, it simply wasn't the blockbuster of the last novel in story line and for some that could be a disappointment. This is definitely NOT a stand alone book and if you haven't read the series, go back to the beginning and prepare to be completely entertained. It's so exciting to watch this author only get better with every book, while others in the same genre, not only got worse, then hostile to their fans and finally fell off my list to read and buy. Let's "eat our spinach", read this book and get ready for the next one, which I'm certain will be dynamite!

Summary: Nice wrap up for me!
Comment: I was a bit disappointed at the end of the 7th novel (left hanging) and felt this one really helped tie up a lot of loose ends. I just found this series and have read all 8 books in the last 3 weeks and was worried I'd feel like I was on verge of a cliff waiting for #9 (based on the end of 7) but was pleasantly surprised by this. I thought more of all of the character's emotions were shared in this one and now I can wait with bated breath to see where Sookie takes us next time, without feeling like it was a season finale!

Summary: From Dead to Worse - A More Serious Sookie Book
Comment: As a fan of Sookie Stackhouse books, I always felt they were light, sweet, and fun. By Book 7, the tone had become more serious as Sookie became firmly integrated into supernatural society. Book 8, From Dead to Worse, was positively grim.
The supernatural scene is still reeling from the devastation of Katrina. The balance of power has shifted away from the once-affluent vampires of Louisiana, leaving all of Sookie's vampire friends vulnerable. The fault lines of the Shreveport Were pack - sown by the murderous transition of power from old pack leader to new - are splintering. Who is the one person who associates closely with both factions? That's right, our girl Sookie.
For those people who are saying this book is busy, yes, it is. Sookie has been in the supernatural scene but not of it for a long time. She hovers around the fringes; she assists here and consults there. Now the advent of Katrina has sent the rigid, almost feudal, organization of the supernatural community into a tailspin - a shakeup is inevitable. Weakened prey draws the predator. This time, there's no staying neutral or keeping to the edges of things. As events come to a head, choices that Sookie has made as small parts of larger events come home to her.
I liked this book a lot. It showed clearly just how delicate the balance of terror is among the supes, and that even those otherworldly creatures can be impacted by something as natural and mundane as extreme weather and the financial upheaval caused by it. I also like the normalcy that Sookie imposes upon herself as everything supernatural is swiftly going south all around her. She goes to work. She deals with (decidedly twisted) family drama. She doesn't get jaded or lose sight of her human life - a talking-to she gets from her boss is still a big deal.
This was a five star book from start to finish - and I'd even give it a bonus star for the ending, if I could.

Summary: Very dull and boring
Comment: This is one of the weakest Sookie books I've read. I have been a fan of the mysteries since the first book. There is not much of a mystery here. It's basically several small stories wrapped in one: The werewolf war, her boyfriend Quinn, trouble from a spy, etc. I would have liked to have seen Harris focus on only one thing. I did like a few of the surprises but basically I found the whole book lacking. Not to mention Sookie being mostly in a bad mood throughout the whole thing. I do hope to see more of a romance between her and Eric. It would be disappointing if she took back Bill. I am hoping the next book will focus on one subject and not disappoint me the way this book did.
