Customer Rating: Summary: Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL Scanner Comment: The Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL Scanner fast, easy to use, and quiet. I use it with a MacPro and VueScan software ([...]). I also bought the Transparent Media Adapter.
I've scanned 4X5 transparencies and large flat art posters (in sections) and everything matched up perfectly.Plug and play... it was done.
I owned a SCSI Microtek ScanMaker III prior but the cost of a SCSI card for the new Macs and the lac resolution and speed I had to upgrade. I'm glad I did.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice equipment - software?? Comment: The scanner hardware has been excellent and functions as advertised. The acompaning software is another story, if not for Adobe Photoshop being included I may well still trying to figure out the software. Most of which I still have not used - everything is done with Photoshop.
Customer Rating: Summary: scanner ok, software not Comment: I have a Microtek scanner and just downloaded the latest drivers. It turns out Microtek wants a program called Scan Finder to load at every start-up, and there is no way to disable this. The product works satisfactorily, but for my money, I will purchase something else. Something that doesn't create such a nuisance, and isn't so invasive.
Customer Rating: Summary: This is the scanner used for American Art Archives Comment: This is the scanner used for American Art Archives
I've had this scanner for nearly two years now (it replaced a SCSI Microtek that did fail after several years of intense use). I'm using it on a Macintosh G5 dual 2gig, mostly for Photoshop, web, and OCR. It's much faster than the SCSI version and running with a fast Mac, there's no hicups in any foreground applications while scanning at 300 dpi (the only setting I need).
It's not unsual for American Art Archives do to 50 scans in a day. The Microtek just keeps on keeping on.
My one quibble is that the Scanmaker software has a few nagging interface oddities, like not being able to just hit enter/return to start a scan. Also, it's best to overview each item before scanning as if you just scan page after page, even if each page has similiar images, the software blows out all images after the first scan. What's up with that?
If you need a workhorse that can do tabloid and works with OSX, check this unit out.
Customer Rating: Summary: great scanner for small business pror Comment: Microtek is a great company with a great product! I recommend this scanner for the professionals who need a larger scanner without the larger price.
