Summary: The quintessential garment
Comment: Carhartt's washed duck work dungarees are just about the perfect garment. To begin with, they're practically indestructible and last a very long time--that's the quality of endurance you truly want in a garment. I first stumbled upon Carhartt in a shop in Watkins Glen, N.Y. They're not showy or fashionable--so much of the clothing industry, it seems, has gone this route. In our "designer label" mass culture almost everything we crave for and buy is basically a fraud or purchased merely for its entertainment or status value. The very notion "value" has been contorted beyond all recognition.
Not so with the honesty and simplicity of Carhartt. It is in the truth of a Carhartt garment we find intrinsic value. You get what you see.
Be who you are. Don't pretend to be something you are not. Buy these. Wear them. Sit back--relax. Better yet, take a walk.
"Few people" Emerson tells us, "know how to take a walk. The qualifications are endurance, plain clothes, old shoes, an eye for nature, good humor, vast curiosity, good speech, good silence and nothing too much."
Take a deep breath. Now you're really living and not just faking it.
That, it seems to me, describes Carhartt perfectly.

Summary: My hubby would give them a 5
Comment: I bought these as a gift for my husband who would dress in Carhartt from head to toe if given the opportunity, he loves them. Having spent years as a carpenter and then the last 3 years working in a rock quarry... he needs sturdy clothing, and these hold up VERY well.
When they first arrived they were as stiff as cardboard (according to my hubby this is normal). Several washes later I still think they could stand on their own but they do feel less rough to the touch. Honestly I don't think they are the most attractive pants I've seen, but for their purpose, you can't ask for a better more resilient pair of pants.
The hard part is convincing him not to wear them to Church. They are an excellent deal if you have a hubby who works outside and has to undress in the garage when he comes home. Apparently other guys that work there think they are pretty spiffy too.

Comment: I wear Carhartt clothing all the time. Though these were not advertised as seconds, they obviously were as the zipper was incorrectly installed and there was no inspector's tag in the pocket.
When buying Carhartt, be careful to find a responsible vendor.

Comment: My husband wears these pants to work everyday....he has most every color....we do miss the brown we use to get....the carhartt brown is not an appropriate color. The pants worn with a nice shirt actually look pretty dressy, not like jeans. They are easy to care for and we will continue to buy them as long as my husband continues his line of work. Best.

Summary: STIFF INITIALLY BUT LOVE 'EM
Comment: When I first got these, I couldn't beleive how stiff the material was, but I've really grown to love the way these feel. I don't know why, but I do. They've softened up some, but are still pretty stiff.
I like the color. They are a bit baggy, but I guess that's so you can put them on/off without taking your shoes off, which I rarely do, but I guess construction workers do? but I'm not sure why. :-)
