Customer Rating: Summary: photo printer Comment: very good pictures and fast printing but could use a paper tray when printing more than one or two sheets.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good at the right price Comment: This is a decent printer. It is possible to get it unbelievably cheap if you look around for refurbed ones.
The picture quality is absolutely acceptable, and I didn't find it too noisy. It's a little slow (about 1 minute per 4x6 in high quality mode) but for the price, what can one expect?
It does use a lot of ink, so I'll have to see what the final print costs end up being - but Canon has the cheapest 4x6 glossy photopaper I could find (unless you find some noname brand) - and they are among the most reasonable on ink cartridges as well.
I think regardless of printer, it is probably better to print most your pictures at a store these days, but for emergencies and maybe large size prints as well, this printer does the trick.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pixma iP 1800 Delivers Comment: I replaced my Canon Pixma 6000D (with six expensive ink jets)with this nice utility printer. The quality of the photos with the iP1800 are high quality enough for family snapshots. And, I like the separate color and black cartridge so I can save on ink by just printing basic documents in "grayscale." My son says the Canon cartridges are cheaper than HP. Big negative: No tray to catch the paper when it prints out. The printer just "spits" out the pages, which makes it almost impossible to keep large documents in the correct page order unless you babysit the printer.
Customer Rating: Summary: Waste of time & money Comment: Don't buy it even though it's gotten some decent reviews and only cost $49. I've owned nothing but Canon's for the past 6 years--S450, S600, & S750 and they were very good printers while they lasted. The print head eventually seems to go bad on all of them and they stop printing correctly. But this ip1800 is in a different league altogether. It's noisey, it doesn't feed paper straight, it burns through ink incredibly fast, and the print quality is not as good as the aformentioned. Don't waste your money. I just took mine out to the trash and it still worked. I didn't even want to give it to somebody.
Customer Rating: Summary: Can I give it "0" stars?? Comment: I'm so disgusted with Canon. I will never buy another Canon product. I'm sure there are many people who are satisfied with this printer or other Canon products, but my experience has been horrible.
I purchased this printer several months ago, but immediately reported that the ink cartridges ran out waaaay too quickly, which was probably due to my cartridges spurting out ink from the right side of the carriage inside the printer. No problem, I think... this one's defective and I'll just exchange it.
After much ado, the store where I purchased it did exchange it for me (which they can do once), but my second iP1800 does the same thing. Ink spurting inside the printer, which explained why I went through 4 sets of cartridges so quickly. Canon has talked with me by phone, by email, etc... but won't do anything, even though I'm within the one-yr warranty and have my receipt. Customer service rep transferred me to yet another customer service rep... blah, blah, blah. I'm so sick of telling this story.
What's so hard to understand? I would just say it's defective, but two new printers have given me the same results. From what I hear, the ink cartridges run out quickly even if they're not spurting ink. My 8-yr old HP DeskJet 812 was great with cartridges lasting 4-5 times longer than these, and were no more expensive. (no exaggeration) But it was not compatible with my new computer, so I have a great older printer sitting here that I can't use, and a new one that sucks. (and I don't even usually use that word...sucks)
Canon transferred me on the phone 5 times, I talked to people in Germany and some other country (India?) before it was over... and offices around the U.S. that just couldn't help me at that location... sorry, m'am. They've emailed me 3 times and the only offer I've had was to send me a complimentary set of cartridges... wow.
I've read many reviews on this printer being loud. I wish that was the only problem with mine.
Save yourself! Someone else here said they wouldn't touch Canon with a 10-foot pole... I feel the same way.
