Customer Rating: Summary: ASUS laptop Comment: Small, but for the price ok. No place for CD's. Adapter burnt out in 1 week.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful, but has a fault Comment: The EEE 900 I recieved has been wonderful to use, but the tech support from ASUS is something to be desired. My unit's webcam only works in certain programs, and I've contacted their support multiple times and have gotten no help. Besides that, it's a great, tiny little machine. If only the webcam would work right!
Customer Rating: Summary: great small pc Comment: This is a great little machine that's small and light. I think it will be great to travel with. I wish I bought one with a little larger HD.
Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome! Comment: Im very happy with this laptop, was lucky enough to get it on the customers vote for 140 after taxes. It has been running smooth, I primarily use it just for surfing and watch movies on the go. It takes a bit of time to configure it all to run quickly, a lot of forum reading and tweaks.
Pros: light weight, very quite until the fans come on, shock resistant, decent battery, plethora of accessories and mods for it, easily mods, integrated 1.3 mp camera and mic
Cons: can heat up, especially if over clocking, stock battery life is about 2hrs which is pretty low considering ssd and small screen(my dell 17incher with the wuxga 1900x1200 screen runs for 2 hours 6800go wifi on and medium brightness), cheap feeling power adapter, no screen latch.
other things to keep in mind: a upgrade battery that runs for 6+ hrs can be had for $50 shipped, if you are comfortable with sodering a touch screen panel can be installed for about $50 as well over the existing lcd, as well as many other mods. the drive is partitioned as a 4/8, install just the os on the 4gb, the rest on the 8. A large capacity SDHC card should be kept in the reader slot at most of the time to boost capacity, class 6 and up (I suggest 20mb read/write from sandisk extreme 3 can be had for practically free after ongoing rebate). Upgrade the ram to 2gb, easy and quick, does not void asus warranty with the 2gb kingston single module. check eeepc forums for more tweaks as there are many possibilities!
Bottom line: Heck yea for the price! eeepc and amazon ftw!
Customer Rating: Summary: Poor hard drive design ruins an otherwise promising mini Comment: I received my Eee PC yesterday and am considering returning it already. As many had mentioned, the 12 GB hard drive (actually flash memory) is two drives, with the smaller being less than 4 GB. This is the one that contains Win XP! I installed Microsoft LiveOneCare (for virus, back-up, etc.) and Firefox and my C drive was full! I uninstalled several things, like Skype and some other preinstalled programs and still did not have room to install itunes! I went to repartition the hard drive or merge the two drives and this is not possible, since they are two separate flash drives in the laptop. Horrible planning on Asus' part.
I called tech support and they told me I should try to pick programs that I could install on the D drive instead of the C. What?!?! How many times do you actually have a choice of directories? Can I install SP3 on the D drive?!?! No! Unbelievable. I am trying to find a reason to not waste more of my time going around ASUS' lack of poor storage design, but at this point, I'm a bit angry and frustrated from the amount of time I've already spent on a new laptop that should not have started with this ignorant problem.
If you plan on installing or upgrading any software, beware! It probably won't fit. Do not save anything, like me, and you will still run out of space. Ugh!
